Paul Foster's son, Mark, was normally a pretty sensible and straightforward lad but he was suffering from the same affliction that affects every young man of 21; he was rather smitten with a young lady, and was trying quite desperately to impress her! There was no way that they could justify paying out this sort of money, and Mark was completely disconsolate, imagining himself to be doomed to an old age of bachelorhood!
